History & Vision

YWAM Arua is called to a bridge of healing to the war torn nations of northern Uganda, Sudan, DR Congo and Central African Republic.

We were established in 2003 by 5 YWAMers who came to Arua, West Nile from Uganda, the UK, USA and Australia. At that time, West Nile was a island of peace in the midst of war - in northern Uganda, South Sudan, DR Congo and Central African Republic.

Our vision is to mobilise Africans into missions to bring the transforming power of the gospel to the heart of war torn Africa.

Our Heart For The Nations

From the day YWAM Arua was established, out heart has been to reach out to the nations around us. We have a long-term vision to support and establish YWAM ministries in northern and north western Uganda, South Sudan, DR Congo, and Central Africa Republic.

We have strong links with other YWAM bases in all of these nations, and we partner with them in many initiatives. We also have a vision to pioneer other locations in the region. We love to partner with other ministries across the world who also have a burden for these nations.

The Refugee Crisis

Due to the recent civil war in South Sudan, Uganda is now home to over 1 million refugees living in dozens of refugee camps, including the 2nd largest refugee camp in the world. Due to YWAM Arua’s strategic location in the midst of these camps, and our heart to minister to the nations around us, much of YWAM Arua’s work is focused on the refugee community.

Our refugee ministry conducts DTS seminars, a variety of teaching seminars and trauma healing in different camps, but in addition to this, many of our other ministries are directly or indirectly involved with refugees – for example, our recent Discipleship Training Schools have attracted a large number of students from the refugee camps.
